My Chemical Romance: ‘New Album’ = Back To Based?

Aliran musik MCR sering menimbulkan perdebatan. Ada yang mengatakan musik emo, alternative rock, post-hardcore, punk-rock, atopun pop-punk, meski pada situs mereka, MCR menyebut musik mereka beraliran rock ato kadang ‘violent, dangerous pop’.

Di album yang keempat MCR akan kembali ke asal, yaitu ke musik punk-rock, namun bukan berarti mereka ga akan mengeksplorasi ide-ide gila. Lagu-lagu dalam album ini, terasa lebih optimis dibandingkan album mereka yang sebelumnya, "Kami belum memberitahukan judul albumnya karena jika nanti kami merubahnya, maka orang-orang akan kesal," ujar Gerard, "Saat ini, kami hanya akan menyebut single kami sebagai 'New Song'. Lagu ini datang dari dalam hati dan dapat membuat orang terinspirasi. Sangat menyenangkan karena kami kembali pada musik punk-rock. Lagu ini benar-benar terasa nyawa rock-nya."

Sebenernya sebelum mereka membentuk MCR, mereka udah sering mainin musik punk-rock. Ga heran kalo mereka ngerasa senang bisa ‘kembali ke asal’.

Disini nih anehnya, kalo mereka emang seneng mainin musik punk-rock, kok nuansa punk-rock-nya cuma sedikit terasa di album ‘I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love’ ama ‘Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge’? Sedang sisanya, termasuk album ‘The Black Parade’ lebih terasa nuansa emo ato alternative-rock-nya aja? Emang sih, musik emo itu ‘turunan’ musik punk, tapi kan tetep aja beda.

Well, meski musik mereka masih sering diperdebatkan, MCR ga ambil pusing tentang masalah itu. Mereka malah menikmati perdebatan itu.
